Alex: After 15 years of keeping fit I fell out of love with it. At first it was liberating having no personal targets, no need to keep a p.m.a. when you thought you were about to fail... but then after about 9 months it happened... I felt a bit, well, "squishy" and "groggy" and things just weren't as tight as they were before.
So.. a heavy kick up the backside and off I went to re-join the gym and run a few half-hearted circuits around the village.
Talking to yourself is considered insanity but with no fitness guru around me to kick me up the backside I had to think of ways in motivating myself and this meant giving myself a good talking to. It may be a woman thing but to concentrate on the fitness part I have to feel comfortable/good and this meant shopping ;). I bought a new pair of Asics trainers, a pair of Rockwear Capri pants and top. I also bought a cap as it helps me concentrate when running outdoors (not sure how but it just does).
At first it was so hard to re-gain motivation but with my focus being on fitness and the result meaning I could wear that skirt or that top or those favourite jeans (girls you know what I mean!), within a month I was back enjoying the feeling of achievement. I found an awesome Bodypump instructor who inspires me to be a better me so now I also look forward to this Wednesday workout.
The post workout burn didn't bother me, in fact I kind of like it... that sign that you are really working your muscles and the knowledge that it will get easier. I am now bouncing my way through each day looking forward to the next challenge. That groggy, squishy feeling has disappeared. Getting in shape is not a picnic but nothing in life worth anything ever is!
8 weeks on and the love handles have gone, the definition is coming back and I have fallen back in love with the gym... hooray!
A few guilt free margaritas this weekend to reward myself ;)
For all those who are struggling to motivate themselves to get fit, just close your eyes and imagine a better you and if you decide not to put those trainers on then in a Jim Bowen style... "look what you could 'av won".
Until next time....
ooh, I like your pink toe nails Jon! lol
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! I really like your writings on keeping healthy. Hopefully soon there will be a market for virtual golf simulators. They're great for exercise and training. Who ever said that golf was a silly sport. Cheers for being fit! Thanks for letting me post. Link up with us at http://golfweatherrainorshine.com
ReplyDeleteEvery weekday it's part of my routine. I get up, breakfast, go to the best gyms for an hour, then come home. I started being motivated by getting 2 year old into the creche, so he could socialise every day with other kids - he's also the reason why I stay for 1hr+.
